The house where Beechamp House stood, and where the Ice House stood for generations, has fallen into disrepair.
The roof of the Bechamp House, which was built in 1929, collapsed on Jan. 10 and caused the roof to collapse.
A total of 12 people died and at least three more were injured, according to a report from the city’s Department of Construction and Inspections.
The building’s last owner, George Beechamps, was a former U.S. Marine who became a lawyer in the late 1950s.
Beechams family died in 1999, according the report.
It took the city about two years to replace the building’s roof and replace the windows, according a statement from the department.
The city has been trying to find a new owner since 2010, but the process has been complicated by the ongoing renovation of the former home, which included a large-scale, multi-level parking lot.
The city was awarded $4.7 million in construction costs.
A spokeswoman for the city did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.
