HILLSBOROUGH, N.H. (NEWS 1130) – A home owners association in New Hampshire has created a $3,500 calculator to help people who are struggling to make a payment on their home.
The NH Association of Home Owners has been helping people pay on their homes and other properties in the state for nearly 10 years.
It also works with homeowners associations around the country.
The NHOA says it has helped hundreds of people pay off their mortgages.
The calculator is designed to help residents and homeowners of low and moderate incomes pay off mortgages as quickly as possible.
It’s called the HOMEPAY NOW calculator.
“It will take a little bit of time, but we will help you pay off the loan,” said Lori Miller, executive director of the NHOA.
Miller says people can start making payments on their new home or other property right away.
“We do it all over the place,” she said.
“If you have an emergency, we can set up a payment right now.
And if you have a little emergency, it’s a lot faster, but if you’re on the road and it’s getting late at night, we’ve got you covered.”
Miller says you can get help with paying off a mortgage as early as 90 days before the end of the month.
The National Association of Realtors says people should not delay making payments because of an emergency or an emergency-related illness.
“When people are faced with an emergency like a stroke, we strongly encourage them to make payments as soon as possible,” said Richard Fournier, senior vice president of the association.
Fournier says the calculator will help people save money on their mortgage.
“A little bit faster, if you’ve got a little more time,” he said.
“If you’re in the middle of your payments, you’re saving $10, $15 or $20 a month,” he added.
Miller hopes to continue the program for a while longer.
